Google Calendar CSV import

Earlier this week, George Williams demonstrated how to move your assignments and due dates from your syllabus to Google Calendar using the CSV import feature.  This import feature could also be used at the beginning of the semester to collect schedules from research assistants and independent study students.  By default, Gustavus publishes each student’s class schedule on their Gustavus Google Calendar, but students don’t necessarily add other regularly occurring events (e.g., student organization meetings or work shifts); therefore, in the past I have asked them to submit a paper copy of their schedule to me at the beginning of the semester.  Then I have created a calendar in my own account for each student, but this required entering a new event for each student for each of their classes/meetings.  Maybe using the CSV import feature and generating a form that has the appropriate headings could streamline this process.  Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like the CSV import feature supports repeating events, so one would need to go in and manually make certain events repeating after students submitted their schedules and their calendar was imported.

The CSV import feature might also be helpful to Departments and Committees who wanted to make their meeting schedule available to their members or the campus community as a whole.

I’m getting an error message when I try to import the CSV to my calendar. I also tried to import it as an Excel spreadsheet and it failed.
